Ten whole days without any sugar, fat-free half and half (a.k.a. chemicals) in my coffee or feta cheese in my salad. YIKES! And even more awe-inspiring: NO WINE! And guess, what? I feel good maybe even GREAT!
Now, I’ll be honest, my eating habits weren’t horrible before. Years of Weight Watchers have definitely taught me a lot. Plus, because of my interest obsession with health losing weight, I tend to read lots of books/ articles/Facebook posts/tweets/Instagram and Pinterest posts on exercise and health. So, I started off this challenge with some good habits already in place. But I also started it with a very healthy sweet tooth and a love of baking. My nightly sugar habit was definitely my downfall.
Sooooo, long story short, I have long ago tried to limit my intake of processed foods while increasing my intake of fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. But I come from a long line of snackers, pickers, and sweet eaters. My M.O. was to snack at night on something sweet. Oh, and did I mention that I love to bake? I would love to try out new recipes cookies, brownies, cakes. You name it! So after a day of cleaning eating, I would sit down at night to a delish treat. Sometimes, many times, it would be small but I would often sneak little bites, licks, and tastes. I have tried limiting my night time treats but to no avail. In other words, I had no control over my sugar dragon.
No sugar. Not a choice. One slip up and you need to start from the beginning. Well, over the past ten days I have resisted leftover Christmas cookies, pound cake, gourmet chocolate, and my favorite, Costco corn muffins the size of a small child’s head! And guess what? It hasn’t even been that hard — okay, well maybe a little. But I’ve done it! Not even a crumb of a cookie! Not a grain of sugar.
Yes, it’s true…..I still have 2/3rds of the way to go but I have already done something I never, ever thought I could do!
Are you doing Whole30 or have you done it in the past? I’d love to hear about your experience.
